What good will name calling do in politics?

I hear a whole bunch of hogwash when people call each other names in the political arena. I’ve heard the names of “commies, liberals, repug, nazi” and many more.

I thought adults were more civilized and mature rather than using child like tactics to make a person look odd or bad. What good will name calling do in politics?

Are political adults unable to debate in a mature style?

What is your perspective on this?

How do I become more knowledgeable about politics?

I am 16 years old and I don’t know the first thing about politics. Whenever I read the newspaper or watch the news and they’re talking about politics, I have no clue what they’re talking about. However, I WANT TO know what they’re talking about, but I don’t know where to start and I want to be able to have an intelligent conversation with someone about politics in the future. How do most people become knowledgeable about politics? Do you think if I read the newspaper everyday, it would start to click? Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am 21 years old, currently pursuing a degree in criminal justice. I am very interested in a career in Politics though. I feel its a lot of old ideas, and their needs to be new ideas, and a younger feel to government, could really change things up, and make the community better.
