What good will name calling do in politics?

I hear a whole bunch of hogwash when people call each other names in the political arena. I’ve heard the names of “commies, liberals, repug, nazi” and many more.

I thought adults were more civilized and mature rather than using child like tactics to make a person look odd or bad. What good will name calling do in politics?

Are political adults unable to debate in a mature style?
