Whatever You Do, Do Not Mix Religion And Politics – Why Not?
“Religion and politics should not mix” say some. “You can come to our dinner party but the two topics which are banned are Religion and Politics!” Oh, I could speak about other things – trivial things – unimportant things – topics of little relevance!
Come with me and see how God intertwines genuine religion and concerned compassionate politics!
I am writing from the revelation given to a mighty man of God in Isaiah Chapter 11, and it is highly political. O, that The White House, and Downing Street, and the United Nations, would pay close attention!
The situation here is – that Israel had been overrun – and chopped down like a tree – and there is only a stump left – nothing to look at – totally insignificant – humanly speaking, hopeless. It looks as if Israel was finished. But, of course, we are not dealing with something merely humanly!
When Isaiah looks he sees an amazing sight. Something has happened and something has yet to happen. A shoot will appear. From the remains of the chopped down trunk – a branch will grow – and this single shoot will grow strong.
In Isaiah Chapter 11 this committed and dedicated man of God is given an amazing insight
Verse 5. Isaiah sees this picture of Jesus Christ – and He is righteous and He is faithful. Remember that in these times – He is righteous and faithful.
Isaiah also sees Jesus bringing about a nature which is reconciled with itself. To the world this must sound equally incredible, and it can stretch our imaginations to the limits. The creation around us reconciled – with itself – and to man.
That includes Global Warming and Climate Change!
At present our world is a jungle of killing and cruelty. At the time when Isaiah was writing – either side of the River Jordan was a jungle – and at night lions and bears came prowling for sheep and lambs. That is why David fought a lion and a bear – I Samuel 17 verses 34 – 36.
Now, there are no lions or bears in that area – they have all gone. Man’s way of dealing with the problem is to destroy. God’s Way is to turn the lion into a vegetarian and make him eat straw like the ox. Even the infant will be safe from the snake.
When God created this world He created it good – and when He created man, He said – That’s very good. Will what is called nature always be like what it is today?
Scientists say YES – the Scripture says NO.
Something has gone terribly wrong with this world – the consequences of sin – and just as man’s sin affected creation adversely – so man’s salvation will influence creation around us for good. We read in Romans in the New Testament that creation is standing on tiptoe waiting for Jesus to return and for all this to happen.
Creation will be redeemed – which means – ‘brought back’ – or bought back – it will be bought back to its original owner and its Creator – by the Branch out of the root of Jesse.
Man and Creation indissolubly joined. There is coming a day when the salvation of the last Adam, (I Corinthians 15 verse 45) – Jesus Christ, will have an affect on creation – just as the sin of the first Adam caused the whole of Creation to fall.
We get a glimpse of this when Jesus rode into Jerusalem. He rode upon the colt of an ass, upon which no man had sat. He sat on it, and it carried Jesus wherever He wished to go – the Branch was in perfect control.
If only conservationists could see this, and come to Christ and be preserved themselves for eternity first – and then see what Jesus is going to do.
If only the peace marcher and demonstrators could see what Jesus Christ is going to do.
Through Christ we are called to be part of all this.
Isaiah – do you see anything else? Isaiah has the Father got any more to reveal?
And we come to a verse which many regard as even more incredible – and some do not even want it to happen – and some are against it happening – and now that it has happened partially there are those who wish it could be undone and destroyed.
“In that day” – refers to the end of the age when the Messiah reigns and rules.
Isaiah 11 verse 11 has already happened. God has already done this. It is highly controversial – in the veiled sight of blind people.
Isaiah sees God bringing about National Recovery to Israel. He sees a branch – and there is something waving in the breeze of the Holy Spirit – and on the branch there is a flag – and the branch has become a banner. It is the picture of the ensign banner usually in times of battle. Are the troops being rallied for warfare? As Isaiah looks he certainly sees it as a rallying point – a focal point. It can be seen from far away.
The Branch is transformed into a flag – and Jews and Gentiles are rallying together – unto Christ – and they find it is a place of glorious rest. Isaiah is very specific – He sees that this is the second time that God has reached out His Hand to reclaim His People and bring them back to their land.
Yes – they were overrun – and 70 years later God brought them back.
Then 600 years later it all happened again – and Israel did not believe it would ever happen – but in A.D. 70 Rome overrun Israel and conquered Jerusalem. And in 1948 – God stretched out His Arm a second time to bring them back – just as Isaiah prophesied.
Although men try to chop Israel down – from these deep roots – a shoot appears. And that Branch, Jesus Christ, Who was chopped down on the tree – at Calvary – is risen and alive – and one day He will reappear.
